Bandit Running is looking for an Applied AI Engineer to build production AI systems that can run real workflows, power agents, and improve automated decision loops. This role is hands-on and closely partnered with the Head of Data & Technology, taking work from problem definition through prototype and into production across models, data, APIs, application logic, and deployment.
In this position, you will help connect advanced LLM engineering with practical systems for growth, personalization, and operational decision-making, while also contributing to how Bandit prioritizes applied AI opportunities.
What you’ll do
- Build production AI systems end-to-end, including agents, internal applications, workflows, and decision systems that connect models with Bandit’s data and operational tools.
- Design agent architecture and infrastructure, covering tool use, permissions, context management, memory, triggers, scheduling, observability, and human-in-the-loop controls.
- Automate growth and marketing workflows by evaluating performance, making recommendations, generating or iterating creative, and accelerating experimentation across paid media, CRM, and site merchandising.
- Develop personalization and decisioning systems that translate customer, product, membership, and behavioral signals into relevant actions and experiences.
- Contribute to Bandit’s applied AI strategy by identifying areas where AI can increase team capacity, improve decision quality, or reduce the time between idea, experiment, and learning.
What you bring
- 4+ years of software engineering experience with a demonstrated ability to ship production systems.
- 1+ years of deep immersion in applied LLM engineering, including actively following, testing, and adopting best practices from frontier model labs and the broader AI engineering community.
- Hands-on experience building agents and LLM applications using tool calling, structured outputs, context and retrieval systems, evaluations, and multi-step workflows.
- Strong skills across Python and TypeScript, APIs, SQL and databases, cloud infrastructure, and application deployment.
- Strong product and business judgment to determine what should be built in ambiguous problem spaces while shipping quickly without sacrificing reliability where it matters.
- Comfort operating across engineering, data, growth, creative, and operational problems in a broad, independent way.
