Job Description
The AI/ML Engineer designs, builds, tests, and productizes machine learning solutions to address business needs. This onsite role at Akina focuses on end-to-end development, including model architecture, evaluation, data pipeline interaction, and the transition from prototypes to scalable systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable AI/ML solutions to support strong performance across training, retraining, deployment, scheduling, monitoring, and iterative improvements based on user and system feedback.
- Select appropriate datasets to support model development and performance.
- Apply statistical analysis and run machine learning algorithms to generate actionable results for model improvement.
- Train and retrain systems as needed to maintain or improve effectiveness.
- Execute standard test and evaluation protocols for AI and ML models.
- Provide system integration oversight and support verification and validation needs through iterative design.
- Research and implement a broad range of AI and ML algorithms and tools.
- Design or select appropriate data and knowledge representation methods.
- Apply principles related to software architecture, data modeling, and data structures.
- Transform and convert data science prototypes into scalable solutions suitable for operational use.
- Verify data quality and assess model output quality.
- Identify data distribution differences that may impact model performance.
- May lead geographically diverse teams and serve as a primary point of contact for AI-related matters.
Required Qualifications
- Meets the standard AIML2 labor category requirements.
- Five (5) years of experience in applied machine learning in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in advanced math, artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, or deep learning from an accredited college or university.
- With a relevant Bachelor’s degree, 5 additional years of machine learning experience may be substituted for the Master’s requirement.
- Expert knowledge of multiple programming languages, such as Python, Java, C, and R.
- Experience using standard machine learning frameworks, such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.

Compensation and Location
- Location: Annapolis Junction, MD (onsite)
- Salary Range: USD 207,000 - 253,000 per year

Education
Master’s or Ph.D. degree in advanced math, artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, or deep learning.
