Job Description
The Data Engineer II role at Sony Pictures Entertainment builds and maintains ELT pipelines that power analytics, reporting, and AI/ML applications within the Insights, Strategy and Analytics team. Based in Culver City, CA with a hybrid work arrangement, this role collaborates with stakeholders across production, distribution, and marketing to enable data-driven decision making.
Responsibilities
- Ingest new data sources into SPE's Snowflake data platform, partnering with central IT and cloud operations to define ingestion requirements and verify that pipelines meet business needs.
- Translate complex business use cases into robust data models using dbt and SQL, ensuring scalable analytics capabilities.
- Apply analytics engineering best practices to maintain data asset quality, reliability, and performance.
- Participate in agile, fast-paced project teams building ISA tools; source and harmonize data from diverse systems to deliver consumption-ready data for data scientists and visualization leads, achieving measurable business impact.
- Uphold data quality, integrity, and security standards across platforms and pipelines; collaborate with IT, engineering, and Infosec on governance and compliance efforts.
- Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders to capture business requirements and work with technical partners across disciplines to design elegant solutions.
- Contribute to a high-performance team culture that emphasizes ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related fields; advanced degrees are a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related technical role in a production environment.
- Proven ability to work with complex data domains and organize data assets for analytical use.
- Interest in business concepts related to television production and distribution is a plus.
- Advanced skills in SQL and Python.
- Experience building transformation pipelines in dbt is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with modern cloud data platforms (Snowflake, GCP/BigQuery, AWS/Redshift) and with pipeline orchestration tools.
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, version control, and automated testing frameworks to meet data quality standards.
- Exposure to generative AI technologies and interest in AI-driven approaches to data engineering and analytics workflows.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a curiosity to understand business systems and data origins.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
