Job Description
Zillow is seeking a Specialist II in Data Science to apply advanced analytics and machine learning to moderately complex business problems. This remote role focuses on building scalable data products and production-quality models that support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Role Overview
The Specialist II, Data Science uses advanced analytical methods and machine learning techniques to deliver scalable data products and insights. The role collaborates with cross-functional partners to convert ambiguous questions into structured analyses, develop models fit for production use, and improve the quality and impact of Zillow’s data assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, with guidance from your manager, the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of analytical and machine learning solutions for moderately complex business problems and customer use cases.
- Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to frame ambiguous questions into testable hypotheses, define success metrics, and align requirements to robust analytical or modeling approaches.
- Build, validate, and maintain scalable data pipelines, features, and models using modern data and ML tooling, with an emphasis on reliability, reproducibility, and production performance.
- Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, drivers, and opportunities, and communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Use sound experimentation and evaluation practices, such as A/B testing, backtesting, and error analysis, to measure impact, compare alternatives, and guide iteration.
- Support shared standards, documentation, and best practices for data quality, model governance, and responsible data and AI use within Zillow’s Data Science community.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience applying data science, advanced analytics, or machine learning.
- Experience designing and implementing end-to-end analytical or ML solutions, including data preparation, feature engineering, model development, validation, and operationalization.
- Experience working with large datasets and modern data ecosystems (for example, distributed data processing and cloud-based data platforms) to deliver insights and data products for business decision-making.
- Experience collaborating across functions to understand requirements, prioritize work, and deliver measurable outcomes using data and analytics.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation
Salary range: USD 119,600 to 201,100 per year.
- In California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC, the standard base pay range is $125,900.00 - $201,100.00 annually.
- In Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia, the standard base pay range is $119,600.00 - $191,000.00 annually.
- Actual pay varies based on experience, performance, and location.
- Employees in this role will not be paid below the salary threshold for exempt employees in the state where they reside.
