Product Owner I - Data Science Platforms
Job Description
The Product Owner I role supports Liberty Mutual’s Enterprise Data & Data Science organization by advancing shared platforms and reusable capabilities that enable Data Scientists to build, deploy, and operate AI/ML solutions. The position works closely with product, data science, and technology stakeholders to define strategy, roadmaps, measurable outcomes, and prioritized backlogs.
Role Responsibilities
- Act as the voice of Data Scientists and other platform users by building an in-depth understanding of workflows, needs, and pain points.
- Shape product strategy and roadmaps by combining customer insights, product analytics, technology considerations, and organizational priorities.
- Create and apply product metrics and analytics to evaluate platform usage, adoption, customer experience, and improvement opportunities.
- Partner with Data Scientists, Engineers, Architects, and other stakeholders to translate user needs and product priorities into actionable capabilities and enhancements.
- Collect customer feedback and use data, product metrics, and user insights to guide prioritization and product decisions.
- Support evaluation and adoption of technologies and capabilities that improve the data science development and model lifecycle experience.
- Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, enhance user experience, and increase adoption of reusable platform capabilities and best practices.
- Develop and maintain prioritized product backlogs, including features, user stories, and acceptance criteria, aligned with delivery teams.
- Participate in quarterly planning, demos, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies to support execution and delivery.
- Communicate priorities, progress, decisions, and outcomes to stakeholders across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of Product Owner experience.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and product management practices.
- Experience working with technology teams, with level determined based on relevant experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use data and customer insights to identify opportunities and inform decisions.
- Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communicating technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Curiosity and an experimental mindset, with a demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and approaches.
- Interest in data science, machine learning, AI, data platforms, or developer/platform experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with data, analytics, data science, software engineering, or technology platforms.
- Familiarity with modern data and AI technologies such as AWS, Azure, Databricks, or similar platforms.

Location and Work Schedule
This role is hybrid, with 2 days onsite. Consideration is available for candidates based in Portsmouth, NH, Boston, MA, Plano, TX, Indianapolis, IN, Remote, and Columbus, OH.
Compensation
USD 94,000 to 174,000 per year.
