Hybrid role in Oakland with PG&E Corporation’s Electric Transmission & Distribution organization, supporting the planning and operational decisions that keep the electric grid reliable across nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Transmission Tools and Modeling (TTM) team builds analytical tools, data solutions, and power system models that turn complex grid information into actionable insights.
What you’ll do
In this position, you will design, develop, and execute machine learning and AI models (predictive or optimization) using structured and unstructured data drawn from disparate sources. You’ll generate models that are intended to be defensible, valid, scalable, reproducible, and documented, supporting transmission planning and strategy development.
- Apply advanced data science principles and emerging techniques to inform business decisions.
- Build advanced data mining architectures, models, protocols, statistical reporting, and analysis methods to identify trends in structured and unstructured datasets.
- Extract, transform, and load data from multiple PG&E sources to support feature engineering.
- Develop predictive or optimization models using defensible, reproducible methods that include multiple algorithm development iterations.
- Wrangle and prepare data for machine learning model development and feature engineering.
- Write and document reusable Python functions and modular code for data science workflows.
- Evaluate business implications tied to modeling assumptions, inputs, methodologies, technical implementation, and analytic procedures.
- Partner with sponsor departments and subject matter experts to understand where data science solutions create value.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Serve as a peer reviewer for complex models.
You will also participate in internal and external communities of practice in data science, machine learning, and AI, and educate non-technical stakeholders on advantages, risks, and maturity levels of data science solutions.
