Job Description

Replit is hiring a founding Data Scientist to lead data science initiatives on the Growth team, covering acquisition, activation, and recommender systems. The role is centered on enabling fast, trustworthy decisions through rigorous experimentation and careful evaluation methods.

Role Overview

As a Data Scientist on the Growth team, you will own key data science work across major growth areas, from problem framing and sizing through launch and readout. You will also shape experimentation standards and build evaluation approaches that connect short-term signals to longer-term outcomes such as retention and revenue.

Key Responsibilities

Own data science for major growth areas by partnering with PMs and engineers across the full lifecycle: problem framing, sizing, launch execution, and readout.
Design experiments and metrics that make fast decisions trustworthy, including methods for variance reduction and sequential testing, and short-term proxy metrics validated against long-term retention and revenue.
Help establish experimentation standards for high-traffic surfaces, including metric and guardrail definitions and checks to detect broken tests before they impact decisions.
Apply quasi-experimental methods when randomization is not feasible, such as difference-in-differences, synthetic control, and regression discontinuity for cases like pricing changes and regional launches.
Develop the data science foundation for personalization and recommendations work, including offline and online evaluation and measurement of incremental lift.
Model freemium economics in a usage-based product context, focusing on credit consumption, conversion, and behavior changes driven by pricing and limits.
Build user and project segmentation using behavioral and content signals, including embeddings and clustering, to ensure growth analysis reflects how people are building.
Partner with Data Engineering on a shared metrics layer and experimentation tooling.

Required Qualifications

6+ years in data science, including substantial experience in growth or experimentation for high-scale prosumer, PLG, or self-serve products.
Experience in a fast-growing startup environment, building metrics, datasets, and experimentation practices with limited existing infrastructure.
Strong experimental design and statistical inference skills, including delivering reliable decisions with short readout windows and slow outcomes.
Experience creating experimentation standards or platforms adopted by multiple teams.
Expert-level SQL and Python.
A track record where your analysis influenced what a team shipped, along with experience influencing senior Product and Engineering leaders.
Practical, heavy use of AI tools to accelerate your own work.

Technologies

SQL
Python
dbt

Preferred Qualifications

Comfort building your own datasets in dbt.
Experience with pricing, packaging, or monetization analysis for usage- or credit-based products.
International or mobile growth experience.
MS or PhD in statistics, economics, computer science, or another quantitative field.

Bonus Points

Experience with multi-armed bandits or adaptive experimentation.
Familiarity with developer tools, AI products, or creator platforms.

Compensation and Location

Location: Foster City, CA (onsite)
Employment: Full-time role with an in-office requirement of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Compensation Range: USD 250,000 - 327,000 per year

Full time A/B Testing Advanced Analytics Analytics

Apply Now

Job Description

OpenArt AI is building data-driven growth for its product, with high autonomy, a high growth environment, and meaningful equity tied to what you ship. This Product Data Scientist role focuses on retention and funnel performance, partnering closely with PMs and engineers to turn behavioral insights and rigorous experimentation into decisions that move key metrics across the user lifecycle.

What you’ll do

Design, run, and analyze A/B tests and other causal experiments across signup, onboarding, activation, monetization, and retention touchpoints.
Own experimentation from end to end: set targets for experimental rigor including test sizing, MDE, run duration, primary and secondary metrics, and readout standards.
Troubleshoot complex experiment issues such as sample ratio mismatch, novelty effects, interaction effects, multiple comparisons, and segment heterogeneity.
Build and scale an experimentation practice as the company grows, including playbooks, guardrails, and post-launch validation.
Lead deep-dive growth funnel analyses spanning signup, activation, paid conversion, retention, and “retention resurrection”.
Drive retention insights by identifying drivers of long-term retention versus churn, then turning findings into product recommendations.
Use LTV and cohort analysis to inform pricing, packaging, and broader monetization decisions.
Perform behavioral segmentation to determine which user segments matter and what drives their behavior.
Quantify opportunity sizing so proposed product changes can be evaluated before engineering builds.
Define and maintain core product metrics (activation, engagement, retention, monetization) alongside PMs.
Build and validate dashboards that leaders trust, and keep metric definitions consistent across product, marketing, and finance.
Translate analyses into clear, opinionated recommendations that PMs, engineers, and executives can act on.
Push back with data when an experiment is underpowered, mis-scoped, or measuring the wrong outcome.

What you bring

3–6 years of experience in data science or analytics supporting product, growth, or lifecycle teams (level and title flexible).
Solid A/B testing depth.
Strong SQL and Python, comfortable working end-to-end with data without hand-holding.
Strong statistical foundation.
Product intuition and an instinct for turning signals into insights.
Excellent communication, able to present a clear data story to PMs, engineers, or a CPO and hold your own in discussions.
High ownership and comfort operating in ambiguity.
Experience as an early hire at a consumer startup.
Experience with consumer products, marketplaces, or subscription businesses.
Experience with experimentation platforms (in-house or vendor such as Statsig or Optimizely).
Familiarity with causal inference beyond A/B tests, including diff-in-diff, synthetic control, propensity matching, or CUPED.
Experience with the stack: BigQuery, Amplitude, Metabase, Stripe, GCP.
Exposure to AI/ML products or generative AI.
Comfort working across time zones with a globally distributed team.

Tech you’ll use

SQL, Python, BigQuery, Amplitude, Metabase, Stripe, GCP, Statsig, Optimizely

Work setup

Location: San Carlos, CA (hybrid)
Visa sponsorship: available
Remote: considered for exceptional candidates

Compensation & benefits

Competitive base salary and bonus program
Equity with meaningful ownership in what you build
High autonomy and a high growth environment
