AI Engineer

Mortenson is seeking an AI Engineer to design, test, and deploy AI solutions that improve decision-making, automate workflows, and deliver measurable value for enterprise and project teams. In this role, you will integrate AI models into enterprise systems as well as field applications, helping align AI and data architecture with business priorities.

What you’ll do

• Test and evaluate AI solutions and specific functionalities within enterprise systems and beyond
• Translate business requirements into AI solutions that can be operationalized
• Partner with business stakeholders and communicate goals, objectives, and findings to non-technical audiences to support innovation efforts related to the organization’s R&D
• Work with both structured and unstructured data originating from construction platforms such as Procore and Autodesk
• Collaborate with Data Solutions to apply reusable components and pipelines, enabling scalable AI solutions for team members and supporting domain experts across ITS and operations
• Help ensure deployed AI solutions meet Mortenson standards for security, privacy, and responsible use
• Build effective working relationships across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• (If applicable) Perform other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 2+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or applied data science
• Strong proficiency in Python, ML frameworks, PowerBI, and data tools
• Exposure to enterprise construction platforms or solutions such as Procore, Autodesk, or Oracle
• Active listening and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback
• Ability to travel up to 15%
• Driver’s license required
• Currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B, 0-1, TN, CPT, OPT). Mortenson is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Preferred experience

• Prior work in construction, architecture, engineering, or real estate development
• Experience with LLMs, multimodal models, or generative AI (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex)
• Familiarity with agent frameworks, agentic workflows, and knowledge graph

Location: Minneapolis, MN, United States (onsite). Compensation: USD 85,300 to 128,000 per year.
