AI engineer

WRITER is seeking an AI engineer to architect, build, and deploy production AI solutions and AI agents grounded in enterprise data. This hybrid role is based in San Francisco, with additional hybrid options in New York City or Seattle, and reports to the head of AI engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and deploy high-performance, scalable AI applications into production, with robust integrations across the end-to-end platform.
• Build intelligent agents and AI-powered features, translating research into practical solutions for customers.
• Work with research scientists, data scientists, and product managers to define technical requirements and deliver features tied to critical business needs.
• Participate in the research and evaluation of emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and tools to support leadership in enterprise generative AI.
• Support responsible AI practices, including bias detection, explainability, and safety alignment, to help ensure systems are trustworthy and ethical.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience building and deploying machine learning or AI systems in production.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
• Strong foundation in machine learning principles, deep learning architectures, and natural language processing, with particular experience related to large language models.
• Experience with cloud platforms, including AWS, GCP, or Azure, and with MLOps tools for managing the AI lifecycle.
• Ability to write clean, efficient, well-tested code for scalable software systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and interest in solving complex technical challenges using creative AI approaches.
• Demonstrated collaboration across diverse teams, willingness to challenge the status quo to innovate, and ownership of projects with a focus on impact and excellence.

Compensation and Location

Location: San Francisco, CA (hybrid) with hybrid options in New York City or Seattle.

Compensation: USD 198,000 - 259,000 per year.
