Data Analyst
Job Description
The Food Policy Data Analyst supports the Food Policy Council by strengthening the District of Columbia’s data-driven understanding of the local food system. The role focuses on defining indicators, establishing data sources and tools, and delivering public-facing dashboards that help ensure data is accurate, accessible, and used for program and policy decisions.
Role Responsibilities
- Use information databases to produce program reports while maintaining data integrity; retrieve historical data, respond to information requests, prepare summary reports, and conduct ad hoc analyses using software tools.
- Design analysis approaches and produce analytical reports focused on performance measures, goals, milestones, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Compile trend data for required quarterly reporting and participate in management review of reported results and trends.
- Provide guidance and support the implementation of data-sharing with stakeholders, including internal and external partners within DCH.
- Interpret and apply analytical techniques to procedures to improve processing, reporting, and query capabilities, supporting efficiency and accuracy.
- Capture, develop, and document data definitions, rules, data quality requirements, and logical and physical data models aligned to program needs.
- Perform data cleaning, validation, and verification.
- Determine effective methods for data collection and validation and obtain required data independently.
- Develop and apply analytical techniques to support grant and research reporting, as well as value-added intelligence product development objectives.
- Ensure deliverable quality, including processes, procedures, reports, data extracts, and audit logs, across requirements, design, implementation, testing, and adherence to reporting standards.
Required Qualifications
- Specialized experience demonstrating the competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal progression.
- Three to five years of experience in data analysis, applied research, or GIS. Experience with data sources related to food systems or public health is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, or Public Health is preferred.
- A master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in biostatistics or epidemiology is preferred.
- A GIS Professional Certification, Esri technical certification, or data analytics certification is preferred.

- Tour of duty: Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 4:45pm.

- Duration: Career Service Term, 13 month appointment.
- Pay plan, series, and grade: CS-0301-12.

- Security Sensitive checks and tests: Criminal background check; traffic record check (as applicable); consumer credit check (as applicable); reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test; post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test.
- Residency requirement (if applicable): If the position is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of $150,000 or more, residency in Washington, DC must be established within 180 days of the effective date and maintained throughout the appointment.
