Data Engineer
Job Description
Lindenwood University is seeking a Data Engineer to design and build the systems that collect, store, and support analysis of data at scale from multiple, disparate sources. This role works closely with university stakeholders to understand reporting and analysis goals, deliver the data platform capabilities needed by the institution, and provide technical support while maintaining security configuration and compliance.
As part of the IT team in Enterprise Systems, the Data Engineer’s work aligns with direction from university leadership including the chief information officer, chief data officer, director of enterprise systems, and other administrators. The position is based in Saint Charles, MO (onsite), with minimum 3 years of experience required.
What you will do
- Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to understand university data reporting and analysis objectives
- Design, implement, document, and maintain a data lake based on university data requirements
- Prepare the university data environment for artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and use
- Recommend solutions or alternative approaches to meet system and reporting requirements
- Provide technical support to department users of the system
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including user manuals, technical guides, and standard operating procedures
- Manage required system upgrades and enhancements, including testing and updates to documentation
- Troubleshoot issues related to data access and data manipulation, and provide timely solutions
- Develop and implement system security policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with university data governance and security policies
- Develop algorithms that transform data into useful, actionable information
- Create data validation methods and data analysis tools
- Monitor system and integration performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Participate in project planning and implementation for system-related initiatives
- Support the University’s mission and serve as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
- Model, support, and hold others accountable to the University’s values: integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
- Collaborate with staff to coordinate application upgrades or fixes
- Serve as a liaison with third parties and other stakeholders
- Participate in user group meetings and conferences
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
- Minimum 3 years working with Microsoft Data Products, including Azure Database and Power Platform tools
