Data Scientist
Job Description
Use data to move the bank forward. As a Data Scientist at Valley National Bank, you will drive the data roadmap and support strategic objectives through deep insights, partnering with business teams to execute a data and analytics agenda. You will also help translate performance and findings into clear explanations for non-technical stakeholders, while performing hands-on data engineering, analysis, and visualization. This role is onsite in Morristown, NJ.
Compensation: USD 85,200 - 147,200 per year
What you’ll do
- Interpret business needs and independently complete analysis, reports, and dashboards that meet requirements.
- Translate technical findings into business-ready insights by visualizing data and explaining results to business audiences and senior management.
- Identify new data capabilities aligned to strategic objectives, and partner with the data enablement team to build solutions.
- Work independently with business partners to understand data needs and respond to data requests.
- Run complex data queries, reconcile datasets, analyze outcomes, and form conclusions for senior management.
- Build a more data-driven culture by mentoring data analysts and increasing data capabilities across internal functions.
What you bring
- 3+ years of experience in a data analytics role with hands-on work wrangling large datasets, conducting analysis, and developing insights.
- Hands-on experience with data modelling, data engineering, and tools such as BI tools, Power BI, SQL, and Python (including pandas and numpy).
- Working knowledge building reports and dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.
- Advanced knowledge of data structures and the ability to visualize data effectively for business audiences.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple objectives.
- Experience presenting key insights and results clearly to a business audience.
- Experience collaborating with data teams and business partners to deliver on data needs.
- Knowledge of banking industry and banking systems.
Helpful experience
- Preferred: mapping techniques such as calculating distances and routes, plus building custom market and demographic maps.
- Preferred: master’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
- Preferred: Financial Services experience and knowledge of Retail/Commercial Banking industry, products, and data.
- Awareness of the latest trends in data analytics.
- Strong collaboration and communication across teams and corporate functions.
