Data Scientist
Job Description
Premier Inc. is hiring a Data Scientist to help strengthen its Clinical Decision Support Platform through new machine learning algorithms and applied analytics. In this remote role, you will collaborate with engineers and clinicians to design, validate, and operationalize models using healthcare datasets that may include EHR and claims data.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms using a flexible, analytical approach to maximize value extracted from data
- Deliver innovative approaches grounded in exploratory data analysis for complex, highly dimensional datasets
- Partner with developers and product engineers to turn prototypes into new products, services, and features, and provide guidance for large-scale implementation
- Support data exploration and conceptual design for strategic initiatives
- Apply statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, programming, data modeling, and advanced mathematics to identify patterns, frame business questions, and enable discoveries that improve products
- Develop and test hypotheses, then analyze and interpret results from product experiments
- Review business requirements and procedures, then design and build solutions for production
- Create data science features and stories from requirements to feed product backlogs
- Share data science practice through advice, demonstrations, and presentations to colleagues, clients, and management, and conduct research as needed
- Provide mentoring and training
- Develop project estimates and work plans
- Identify, develop, review, and evolve best practices, standards, operating procedures, and processes
- Participate in reviewing team member deliverables
Required qualifications
- 2+ years of applicable experience
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Ability to apply machine learning to real-world problems
- Track record delivering results on complex cross-functional projects
- Knowledge of SQL, R and/or Python, including associated scientific, data, and machine learning libraries
- Experience working in one or more cloud computing environments
- Software development experience in an agile environment
- Familiarity with workflow tools such as Luigi or Airflow
- Healthcare research experience with large patient datasets
- Experience manipulating and analyzing large-scale datasets
- Experience applying the data science lifecycle to gain insights and perform causal inference
- Experience working in remote teams
- Master’s degree in an empirical field such as statistics, bioinformatics, mathematics, public health, data science, economics, engineering, physics, etc.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods
- Ability to adapt quickly, change priorities, and meet deadlines; attention to detail
- Ability to operate computer programs and software
- Effective communication in person and electronically
- Day-to-day contact with others (co-workers and/or the public)
- Ability to make independent decisions
- Ability to collaborate in a close business environment with peers and varying interruptions

Compensation
USD 72,000 - 120,000 per year. Final salary depends on market factors including departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location.
