Data Scientist

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is recruiting motivated Data Scientists to support the NIH mission across multiple locations. This full-time, permanent position in Montgomery County, MD (onsite) focuses on using modern computational and statistical methods, including AI and machine learning, to produce actionable insights with an emphasis on compliance and reproducible work.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement data collection strategies, methodologies, and tools to ensure data is relevant, accurate, and representative of the target population or phenomenon.
• Prepare data for downstream use by performing cleaning, wrangling, and formatting so it is suitable for storage, analysis, or modeling.
• Organize, store, and maintain datasets to optimize access patterns and security, while accommodating different data types and characteristics.
• Apply computational and statistical techniques to analyze data.
• Use methods underlying artificial intelligence (AI), data mining, machine learning, and statistical inference to gain knowledge and insights, build classifiers and predictors, or infer causality.
• Create visual representations of data, such as charts, graphs, maps, and dashboards.
• Explain the meaning of visualized results in context, including point, implications, and possible ramifications.
• Develop, implement, or lead data science initiatives and strategies while ensuring compliance, managing teams or resources, evaluating proposals, and maintaining reproducible procedures.
• Develop, implement, modify, or recommend data science tools, including data visualization and healthcare AI (for example, machine learning).
