Job Description

Akina, Inc. is seeking a Data Scientist 3 to develop analytics and machine learning capabilities with a strong MLOPS focus in Annapolis Junction, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Develop machine learning, data mining, statistical, and graph-based algorithms to analyze and interpret datasets
  • Prototype multiple algorithms and select final models using appropriate performance metrics
  • Build models and design experiments to generate training data when datasets or examples are unavailable
  • Create reports and visualizations that summarize datasets and deliver data-driven insights to customers
  • Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to convert manual analysis into automated analytics
  • Implement prototype algorithms within production frameworks to integrate into analyst workflows
  • Produce data visualizations that explain dataset structure and meaning
  • Work with SMEs to identify valuable information in raw data and develop scripts to extract it from formats such as SQL tables, structured metadata, and network logs
  • Incorporate SME input into feature vectors for analytics development and testing
  • Translate qualitative customer analysis processes and goals into quantitative formulations embedded in software prototypes
  • Develop and implement statistical, machine learning, and heuristic methods for descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics
  • Develop statistical tests to support data-driven recommendations and decisions
  • Develop experiments to collect data or create simulations when required data are unavailable
  • Develop feature vectors for machine learning algorithm inputs
  • Select and tune algorithms for specific datasets, including input and model parameter optimization
  • Evaluate and validate analytics performance using standard methods such as cross validation, ROC curves, and confusion matrices
  • Oversee analytic workstreams and guide the team’s analytic development process
  • Guide solutions to scale to large datasets
  • Partner with software engineers and cloud developers to deliver production analytics
  • Develop and train machine learning systems using statistical analysis of data characteristics to support mission automation
  • Lead multiple analytic efforts with a team of data scientists
  • Collaborate with customers and SMEs to define analytic requirements and steer team formulation to meet those requirements
  • Guide the transition of prototyped analytics into production systems
  • Keep abreast of emerging machine learning and pattern recognition approaches and guide integration of state-of-the-art algorithms
  • Delegate analysis tasks to team members and monitor execution and performance

Requirements

  • Clearance: TS/SCI - Polygraph required
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in two (2) or more of: designing/implementing machine learning, data mining, advanced analytical algorithms, advanced statistical analysis, artificial intelligence, or software engineering with data analysis software such as R, Python, SAS, or MATLAB
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline (examples: statistics, mathematics, operations research, engineering, or computer science)
  • Substitution: An additional 4 years of software development, cloud development, analyzing datasets, or developing descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics can substitute for the Bachelor’s requirement
  • Graduate substitutions:
    • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline can substitute for 2 years of experience (total 8 years required)
    • Doctoral degree in a quantitative discipline can substitute for 4 years of experience (total 6 years required)
  • MLOPS/Data Science: In addition to standard DS3 labor category requirements, MT&E team seeks significant MLOPS and Data Science background

Salary Range

  • $213,000 to $261,000 per year
  • Range is a likely estimate and not a guarantee; compensation set based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements
