Job Description

Z5 Inventory is hiring a Healthcare Inventory Data Analyst for a remote role in Florida. The position focuses on troubleshooting hospital inventory data issues so downstream outputs align with correct financial statement reporting.

Role Summary

The Healthcare Inventory Data Analyst works to identify and resolve problems in healthcare inventory datasets, with an emphasis on root-cause analysis, data quality, and building reliable Python and SQL pipelines. The goal is to ensure client inventory data is transformed into portal- and count-team-ready formats on the schedule already booked for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transform incoming client inventory data in any provided structure into a usable format for the portal and count teams, aligned to the scheduled count date.
  • Investigate failures that may not surface as errors, including silent nulls, values that are wrong but plausible, joins that miss records without alerts, and numbers that are correct in the wrong unit of measure.
  • Diagnose root causes rather than applying temporary fixes to symptoms.
  • Quantify findings so results support decision-making, including counts and dollar exposure at the product group and item level.
  • Use and help maintain Python and SQL pipelines that process hundreds of thousands to millions of rows.
  • Produce deliverables in two registers: a machine-loadable file suitable for ingestion, and a review workbook that a hospital materials manager can use without additional support.
  • Determine when an issue should not be fixed automatically and flag it for a human review.
  • Document lessons learned from recurring issues so future work does not repeat the same investigations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated willingness to investigate “clean” results by asking why outputs appear correct.
  • Ability to recognize patterns in data while also identifying outlier rows that do not fit expected behavior.
  • Strong numerical accuracy, including understanding that similar categories (for example, a case versus an each) can differ by an order of magnitude.
  • Ability to describe problems precisely, including constraints and edge cases, so others can reproduce the request accurately.
  • Proactive ownership of deliverables on a remote team and early escalation when blocked.
  • Approximately 1 to 3 years of hands-on data experience, including internships, coursework, research projects, or spreadsheet work.
  • Comfort with SQL, including joins and aggregation, plus the patience to confirm join outcomes.
  • Comfort with Python or a credible plan to reach proficiency quickly.
  • Solid Excel skills, including formulas, pivots, lookups, and text parsing.
  • Ability to write a precise technical description for troubleshooting and delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience considered literally.

  • Python
  • SQL
  • Excel
  • DuckDB
  • pandas
  • Git

Benefits

  • Dental insurance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with genuinely dirty data, such as encodings, type coercion, inconsistent identifiers, and files with incorrect format assumptions.
  • Experience with pandas, or comfort building SQL-first pipelines (DuckDB is used heavily).
  • Exposure to healthcare supply chain, materials management, or medical products.
  • Familiarity with ERP item master or PO data, medical product identifiers (NDC, GTIN/UDI), and units of measure.
  • Experience with Git, or prior use of AI coding tools.

Compensation and Location

  • Salary: USD 85,000 per year
  • Location: Florida (remote)
