Job Description

Drive computer vision and machine learning delivery for defense and commercial use cases while mentoring engineers and managing the full ML lifecycle.

  • Lead the design and development of computer vision and ML algorithms for technically challenging problems
  • Develop solutions for detection, classification, localization, and tracking of objects of interest using stationary and mobile sensor platforms
  • Maintain technical currency by monitoring relevant academic literature, commercial products, and open source projects
  • Advise and support software infrastructure and DevOps design to meet ML needs
  • Implement ML algorithms and validate designs via purpose-designed experiments
  • Analyze trained-model performance and errors; design strategies to address model shortcomings
  • Select appropriate datasets and data representations; supervise data acquisition when required
  • Manage resources including hardware, data, and personnel to meet deadlines
  • Coordinate activities with others and team leadership (Team Lead) and support other duties as assigned
  • Oversee end-to-end ML development from requirements through validation and verification testing
  • Mentor junior engineers within the LEAP group in AV’s MacCready Works division

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related Science or Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in machine learning and/or computer vision
  • Minimum 10 to 12 years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with C/C++ or Python (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot complex systems
  • Proficiency with PyTorch (deep learning framework, preferably)
  • Proficiency with scikit-learn and pandas
  • Proficiency with OpenCV
  • Proficiency with Linux
  • Familiarity with ONNX and ML standards
  • Ability to select hardware for specific ML applications
  • Expertise in visualizing and manipulating big datasets
  • Experience working with DoW and Intelligence Community (IC) organizations on advanced technology, research, or AI/ML initiatives
  • Familiarity working in classified spaces
  • Familiarity with office software and computer-based productivity tools
  • Ability to work within defined requirements with minimal supervision
  • Team player with leadership qualities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with small teams and a broad set of duties

  • Comfort working in an office environment (constant) and performing tasks requiring sitting/standing, and operating a computer keyboard (frequent)
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Active Secret level DoD security clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally (up to 20%)

Salary: USD 158,000 - 241,000 per yearly

Clearance level: No Clearance
