Machine Learning Engineer
Job Description
Layup Parts is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer in Huntington Beach, CA (onsite) to train custom models on internal manufacturing and design data.
Responsibilities
- Train, iterate, and improve custom ML models using Layup’s internal manufacturing and design datasets
- Develop models to estimate cost and predict design complexity or manufacturing difficulty from part geometry
- Create models that generate or support assisted generation of new designs using historical design data
- Build data pipelines that extract structured information (for example, specs, dimensions, and material callouts) from engineering documents and drawings
- Evaluate and select modeling approaches suited to geometric, spatial, and other structured data (not text-based/NLP-style problems)
- Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to source, clean, and label internal datasets
- Own model performance end-to-end: data pipeline, training, evaluation, and deployment into internal tools
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve design, estimation, and manufacturing workflows with custom models
Requirements
- Experience training custom models beyond basic labeling or fine-tuning workflows
- At least advanced object detection experience; data classification experience is a strong plus
- Geometry-based modeling experience is highly preferred
- Experience working with large, parameter-rich datasets
- Strong fit for backgrounds focused on structured, spatial, or geometric data rather than natural language or LLM-centric work
Benefits
- Full Benefits Package: medical, dental, and vision coverage; short- and long-term disability insurance; company-paid life insurance
- Equity option grants
- 401k plan
- Paid Time Off: unlimited PTO plus 9 federal holidays
Bonus Points
