Machine Learning Engineer, Foundational AI (FAI)

On the Amazon Foundational AI (FAI) team, you’ll help build industry-leading Generative AI technology powered by Large Language Models (LLMs). This role focuses on advancing frontier capabilities through RL Gyms, applied research, and large-scale experimentation, with the support of Amazon’s heterogeneous data sources and compute resources. The opportunity is based onsite in Sunnyvale, CA and includes a compensation range of USD 165,200 - 223,600 per year.

What you’ll do

• Support the development of RL Gyms to enable new forms of learning and evaluation.
• Assess the usefulness of RL Gyms for frontier model advancement.
• Build techniques aimed at advancing the state of the art with LLMs.
• Support foundational model development in an applied research capacity.
• Leverage Amazon’s heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing to accelerate improvements in LLM capabilities.

What you bring

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
• Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics, or natural language processing.

Preferred qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience using managed ML/AI solutions.
