Machine Learning Engineer Graduate (E-Commerce User Growth)

Join TikTok in Seattle, WA (onsite) as a Machine Learning Engineer Graduate starting in 2027, working on e-Commerce recommendation and marketing algorithms. You will help build systems that improve how users discover products and how marketing delivers measurable growth, including work on personalized recommendations, uplift modeling, and operations research to drive e-Commerce GMV.

The team behind this work, the TikTok e-Commerce Recommendation and Marketing Algorithm team, develops algorithm and big data solutions for e-Commerce innovation projects. Their mission is to make high-quality products easily accessible so everyone can enjoy a better life. Alongside recommendation and search, the team also supports secure shopping experiences with risk control and intelligent platform governance, and builds large-scale technologies like product knowledge graphs, customer service intelligence, and logistics optimization.

Responsibilities

• Help optimize TikTok e-Commerce growth and marketing algorithms, including core capabilities such as user value modelling, personalized messaging, recommendations, and intelligent marketing.
• Contribute to establishing a user lifecycle data and value system to address key pain points and business challenges tied to TikTok Mall user growth.
• Support implementation of product and technical solutions for user growth engines, including personalized push notifications/emails and recommendation handling to increase e-Commerce DAU and penetration rates.
• Optimize recommendation algorithms related to recall/sorting for new user recommendations, improving traffic source handling and the relevance, accuracy, and diversity of new recommendations.
• Improve intelligent marketing algorithms using uplift models and operations research methods to increase marketing efficiency and drive e-Commerce GMV growth.

Requirements

• Currently completing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in C++ and Python; experience with at least one Big Data tool (e.g., Hive SQL, Spark, MapReduce).
• Experience with at least one Deep Learning tool (e.g., TensorFlow or PyTorch).
• Strong algorithms and data structures foundation, with excellent coding skills.
• Strong learning ability, curiosity, and effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Currently completing or recently completed a Master’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Published papers in top AI conferences/journals or achieved notable results in ACM/Machine Learning competitions.
• Experience in recommendation systems, advertising, user growth, intelligent marketing, or related areas is required, with expertise in LTV estimation, uplift modeling, operations research, sequence modeling, or multi-scenario modeling optimization as a plus.

Compensation (Pay Transparency): The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $121,600 - $243,200 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the total package provided to recognize employees for their work.
