Principal Data Analyst - Card Data AI Automation

Join Capital One’s Card Data Management (CDM) team and help advance AI automation for card data through practical innovation, business intelligence, and data management. This hybrid role supports a proactive approach to data quality, including automating complex validation with LLM tools such as Gemini and Claude, and building metrics that reduce operational fire drills. You will also work across data governance, security, and self-service enablement for data consumers.

Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid)

Schedule: associates expected to consistently spend three days per week in the office

Compensation: USD 119,400 - 136,200 per year

Responsibilities

• Use Open Source and digital technologies to mine complex, voluminous data from multiple sources and platforms
• Build well-managed data solutions, tools, and capabilities to support self-service frameworks for data consumers
• Adopt and quickly learn new technologies to advance a range of initiatives
• Partner with the business to translate needs into tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization
• Drive analysis that produces meaningful insights into business strategies
• Ensure adherence to data quality management principles, including metadata, lineage, and business definitions
• Collaborate with technical teams to manage security mechanisms and data access governance
• Build and execute tools to monitor and report on data quality
• Champion LLM tooling (including Gemini and Claude) to automate complex data validation and establish proactive metrics

Requirements

• Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field (or Master’s Degree)
• Scripting experience with Python, R, Spark, and SQL
• Experience working with data in various forms, including data warehouses/SQL and unstructured data
• Experience utilizing and developing within AWS services
• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related) plus at least 5 years of data analytics experience, or a Master’s degree plus at least 3 years with the expectation the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date
• At least 3 years of experience working with at least one scripting language
• At least 3 years of experience using a business intelligence visualization tool
• At least 3 years of experience querying, analyzing, and working with data languages and platforms
• Proven experience developing data strategies that incorporate LLM technologies such as Gemini and Claude
• At least 4 years of experience coding in Python, R, Spark, or SQL
• At least 4 years of experience working within process management and improvement methodologies such as Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.
• At least 2 years of experience utilizing and developing within AWS services
• At least 2 years of experience delivering Data Governance and Data Quality Management concepts and practices within the financial services industry
