Job Overview
PenFed is hiring a hybrid Senior Data Scientist, NPV Modeling to develop and maintain auto, personal loan, and credit card NPV tools used in credit decisioning and pricing. The role also supports the first line's independent challenge of official loss forecasts for consumer lending portfolios.
Responsibilities
- Lead interactions with Management on credit risk issues, recommending product strategies and evaluating overall loan portfolio risk.
- Conduct autonomous end-to-end development of complex statistical models, including objective definition, data gathering, preprocessing, feature selection, model comparison, deployment, and monitoring.
- Institute robust internal control processes around model development, implementation, and validation.
- Develop, monitor, and maintain risk models using advanced machine learning and statistical methods.
- Research new algorithms to uncover relationships in complex data and implement model changes to improve performance.
- Analyze trends in consumer and commercial loan portfolios to inform model implementation design and performance, and adapt accordingly.
- Create analytics and processes to support model implementation and forecasting production activities.
- Establish consistent and robust model implementation processes across models with strong review and control mechanisms.
- Communicate model design, development, and implementation results to diverse audiences, including senior management, regulators, internal validation, Internal Audit, and line of business users in credit and finance.
- Apply intermediate to advanced knowledge of financial processes and modeling theory to craft solutions for one or multiple business functions.
- Maintain documentation for key processes and model components to support standardization.
- Collaborate with model development teams, production, and forecasting teams to ensure consistent implementation capabilities.
- Engage with stakeholders to enhance model implementation processes and translate requirements into integrated forecasting tools for effective use.

Requirements
- Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline is required; a PhD is highly preferred.
- Minimum of three years of related work experience in building statistical models and advanced data analysis; PhD holders may qualify with at least one year of experience.
- Applied experience with Logistic Regression, Linear Regression, Machine Learning, and Survival Analysis.
- Advanced programming skills across statistical tools, including SQL, Python, and R.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and respond to rapid changes in direction.
- Strong data analysis capabilities with an understanding of loss and balance forecasting models, product features, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Detail-oriented, results-driven, and capable of navigating a fast-paced, high-demand environment while balancing priorities.
- Demonstrated critical thinking using both analytical and practical problem-solving approaches within a Quantitative Modeling team.
- Effective collaboration with management, lines of business, credit officers, finance, model governance, oversight, validation, and audit teams.
- Proven project management skills and excellent oral and written communication abilities.
- Experience using AI tools is preferred.

Pay Transparency
The anticipated starting salary range is $84,700.00 to $172,907.00 per year. The role is eligible for an organizational performance based annual bonus, subject to board discretion and approval, as well as an individual performance based annual bonus.
Work Environment
The position operates in an indoor office setting with moderate noise. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds is occasionally required in some roles.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not supervise employees.
