The Machine Learning Engineer Technical Fellow leads technical direction across Indeed’s core search and recommendations platforms, driving AI first matching and partnering with cross-functional teams to deploy scalable ML solutions. Responsibilities
- Identify and architect innovative ML solutions that span multiple teams and organizations across the Indeed platform.
- Work with cross-functional partners to clarify requirements and plan large-scale initiatives.
- Partner with senior leaders to shape long-term technical strategy and influence execution.
- Guide and influence engineers at all levels to deliver high-impact initiatives.
- Mentor machine learning engineers and developing engineering leaders to grow capabilities across the organization.
- Propose and oversee initiatives that boost efficiency and productivity within the ML organization.
- Contribute hands-on when needed by coding and sharing best practices across the team.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field with at least 15 years of experience; or Master’s with at least 12 years; or PhD with at least 8 years.
- Proven ability to influence and deliver predictable results in complex organizations.
- Track record translating product direction into ML architecture and strategy.
- Effective verbal and written communication suited for diverse audiences.
- Technical proficiency in backend languages (Java, C, C++, or Go); ML platforms (TensorFlow, PyTorch, SageMaker or equivalent); and analytics with Python or R.
- Experience with SQL databases such as Presto, AWS Athena, Postgres, BiqQuery, or equivalent.

Salary
Salary ranges for the role vary by tier within the United States, including:
- Tier 1: USD 227,000 – 341,000 per year
- Tier 2: USD 253,000 – 379,000 per year
- Tier 3: USD 278,000 – 416,000 per year
- Tier 4: not applicable
- Tier 5: USD 316,000 – 474,000 per year
Offers typically fall between the range minimum and midpoint, and actual compensation is determined through the interview process. Total rewards may include quarterly bonuses, RSUs, and a paid time off policy.
