Job Description

Amazon Live is looking for a Data Engineer to join the DESA team in Seattle, WA (onsite). In this role, you will help shape forward-looking data architecture and create durable, reusable data assets that support executive reporting, model training, and downstream machine learning features.

You will design data layers, build integration and ML-ready datasets, and keep data quality dependable, while advancing ETL platform maturity through CI/CD and standardized deployments.

What you’ll do

  • Design and build a content metadata layer that unifies broadcast events, product catalog data, creator profiles, and show metadata into reusable assets for dashboards and models.
  • Create cross-session shopper profile datasets by sessionizing event data across visits and computing rolling engagement metrics such as frequency, recency, depth, and conversion lag.
  • Build integration pipelines connecting retail catalog data and advertising performance data into the Amazon Live platform to expand analytics and ML inputs.
  • Produce structured, ML-ready datasets for Applied Scientists and to serve features to downstream ranking and personalization systems.
  • Own data quality through proactive monitoring and anomaly detection to stay ahead of issues.
  • Advance platform engineering maturity with CI/CD for ETL (BDT/Maestro), standardized deployment, and AI-assisted code generation and review.
  • Collaborate closely with Applied Scientists, MLEs, DEs, and the BIE to align data assets with model, serving, and reporting needs.

Required qualifications

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience with AWS technologies including Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions.
  • Experience with non-relational databases and data stores such as object storage, document stores, key-value stores, graph databases, and column-family databases.

Technologies

  • SQL
  • AWS (including Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda)
  • IAM

Compensation and location

  • Location: Seattle, WA (onsite)
  • Salary range: USD 132,100 - 178,800 per year

Benefits

  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription), Basic Life & AD&D, and options for Supplemental life plans
  • EAP and Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage
  • 401(k) matching
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Sign-on payments
  • Restricted stock units (RSUs)

A day in the life

You move quickly across the data lifecycle, from building a denormalized content metadata asset with an Applied Scientist to unblock a new model, to integrating retail or advertising data sources. You will harden ETL CI/CD, add data-quality alarms, and package features for distribution team ranking systems.

You partner daily with scientists, MLEs, DEs, and the BIE to scope what to build and how data assets will be consumed, supported by self-serve analytics agents and agentic operational tooling. The role emphasizes fast execution, end-to-end problem solving, and real ownership over foundational infrastructure for Amazon Live.

About the DESA team

  • The DESA team owns the data platform, analytics, and sciences for Amazon Live and Shop the Show.
  • It is a compact, senior, high-trust team: DEs own infrastructure and foundational data assets, the BIE owns executive reporting, Applied Scientists and MLEs own models, experiments, and signals, and everyone collaborates closely across boundaries.
  • As a Data Engineer, you own forward-looking data architecture and get exposure across the domain, from event ingestion through production ML and leadership reporting.
  • Your datasets become shared org infrastructure, including attribution model inputs for partner teams, ranking features for distribution, and business reporting.
