Job Description

Join Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Chantilly, VA to build and scale deep learning models for advanced EO/IR image processing supporting Tranche 3 of SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Apply expertise to develop solutions for real-world problems.
  • Design, train, and deploy machine learning models for Optical Systems applications.
  • Build and maintain ML pipelines covering data ingestion, feature engineering, training, and inference.
  • Partner with researchers and engineers across artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision.
  • Conduct rapid prototyping and enhanced development for integration into operational systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting, bug fixes, and maintenance for existing and newly developed systems.
  • Stay current with machine learning research and assess new tools, frameworks, and techniques.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or master’s degree or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Eng, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience: 12+ years of experience.
  • Strong machine learning background, including model selection, architecture, training, validation, testing, and deployment.
  • Deep learning experience for computer vision, image processing, or video analysis, including object detection, image segmentation, and tracking.
  • Strong math foundation, with emphasis on linear algebra.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with deep learning libraries such as Keras, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
  • Software engineering fundamentals, including version control, testing, CI/CD, and containerization.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to program requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
