Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Uber Freight Marketplace is building smarter ways to price, predict demand, and improve booking outcomes. In this Senior Machine Learning Engineer role, you will modernize and own end-to-end machine learning models for the UF marketplace, with a focus on cost prediction and booking probability, plus related modeling such as demand elasticity. You will collaborate closely with backend engineers to productionize models and help ensure they perform as expected.

• Compensation: USD 202,000 - 224,000 per year (NYC, SF, Seattle, and Sunnyvale ranges align to this band; Chicago has a lower base range noted below).

Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end ownership for machine learning models in the UF marketplace, including cost prediction, booking probability, and demand elasticity.
• Partner with backend engineers to put models into production and verify they work as expected.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience developing ML models to address business problems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks, such as PyTorch.
• Product experience is a strong plus.
• Ability to adapt machine learning models to the business context is critical.
• Previous experience with state-of-the-art marketplace technology is preferred.
• Experience with causal inference and constrained optimization.

Work location and in-office expectations

This role is based in Chicago, IL (onsite). Unless approved for full remote work, employees must spend at least 50% of their time in-office. Some roles, such as those at greenlight hubs, require full-time in-office presence.

Chicago, IL-based roles: The base salary range is USD $182,000 per year - USD $202,000 per year.

Other locations: New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Sunnyvale roles list a base salary range of USD $202,000 per year - USD $224,000 per year.
