Staff Machine Learning Engineer
Job Description
Uber Freight Marketplace is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to help modernize the Uber Freight marketplace team. The position includes end-to-end responsibility for machine learning models powering the UF marketplace, with close collaboration alongside backend engineers to move models into production and maintain expected performance.
Role Overview
The Staff Machine Learning Engineer will focus on building and evolving ML models for the UF marketplace, including areas such as cost prediction, booking probability, and demand elasticity. The role combines model development with engineering collaboration to ensure production readiness and reliable results.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end ownership of machine learning models for the UF marketplace, including cost prediction, booking probability, and demand elasticity.
- Partner with backend engineers to productionize models and ensure they work as expected after release.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience developing machine learning models to solve business problems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks, such as PyTorch.
Technology
- PyTorch
Preferred Qualifications
- Product experience is a plus.
- Adaptive development of ML models to the business context is important.
- Previous experience with state-of-the-art marketplace technology is preferred.
- Experience with causal inference and constrained optimization.
Location and Work Setup
The role is based in Chicago, IL and is onsite. Offices remain key to collaboration and Uber’s culture.
- Unless approved for full remote work, employees must spend at least 50% of their time in-office.
- Some roles, such as those at greenlight hubs, require full-time in-office presence.
Compensation
USD 209,000 - 232,000 per year.
