Job Description

The Master Data Specialist (Supply Chain Master Data Analyst) at HOLLINGSWORTH & VOSE COMPANY is responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and governance of supply chain master data across the organization’s ERP and connected systems. The position focuses on maintaining master records, executing high-volume updates, and helping set standards and controls across four core data domains.

Location and Compensation

  • Location: East Walpole, MA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 70,000 per year
  • Minimum experience: 2 years

Core Responsibilities

  • Create, update, extend, and deactivate master data records including items/materials, vendors, customers, BOMs, and routings across the ERP and connected systems.
  • Run mass updates and migrations using system tools, upload templates, and data-loading utilities; validate outcomes before and after changes.
  • Maintain cross-system consistency by verifying and synchronizing dependent systems and downstream processes when records change.
  • Process master data change requests within defined SLAs, ensuring completeness and required approvals before data entry.
  • Perform recurring data quality audits to find and remediate issues such as duplicates, missing fields, inconsistent units of measure, invalid statuses, and orphaned BOM components.
  • Establish and maintain data quality KPIs and dashboards, reporting accuracy and completeness metrics on a defined cadence to your manager.
  • Lead data cleansing efforts, including preparation for system implementations, upgrades, or acquisitions.
  • Define and document master data standards, including naming conventions, field definitions, mandatory attributes, and approval workflows for each data domain.
  • Draft and maintain SOPs and work instructions for master data creation and change processes.
  • Act as a gatekeeper for requests by challenging incomplete or non-standard data and routing them through the correct approval path.
  • Support adoption of data governance practices by other departments that consume or submit master data, including procurement, sales, finance, and operations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for master data questions from procurement, planning, warehouse, sales, and finance teams.
  • Support ERP projects, integrations, and system testing for master-data-related work (including UAT, data validation, and cutover support).
  • Provide ad hoc analyses and extracts (examples include item usage, vendor rationalization, and BOM cost roll-up inputs).

Required Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in master data maintenance within a supply chain, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
  • Experience performing master data creation and mass updates directly in at least one major ERP (examples include SAP, Oracle/NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics 365), with the ability to learn additional systems quickly.
  • Working knowledge of at least two of the four data domains: material/item master, vendor master, customer master, BOMs/routings.
  • IA skills and Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, and data cleaning at scale), including experience using data upload/import templates and validation.
  • High attention to detail with a documented track record of accuracy in high-volume data work.
  • Ability to write clear process documentation and communicate data standards to non-technical colleagues.

Technologies

  • SAP
  • Oracle/NetSuite
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Excel
  • SQL
  • Power BI

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience helping build master data governance early, including defining standards rather than inheriting them.
  • Exposure to data quality or MDM tools, SQL, or Power BI/reporting tools.
  • Experience supporting an ERP implementation, migration, or consolidation.
  • Understanding of how master data drives downstream processes such as MRP, procurement, costing, and order management.
  • APICS/ASCM (CPIM) or similar supply chain certification.

Competencies

  • Accuracy and rigor
  • Process orientation
  • Ownership
  • Communication
  • Adaptability

Success Measures (First 12 Months)

  • Documented data standards and SOPs for all four data domains.
  • Baseline data quality audit completed for each domain, including a remediation plan and measurable improvement.
  • Master data change-request process defined, communicated, adopted, and tracked against SLAs.
  • Cross-system data consistency checks established and running on a regular cadence.

Growth Path

This role is scoped at the analyst/specialist level, with a defined path toward Senior Analyst or Master Data Manager as the organization’s data governance function matures.
