Job Description

Robert Half is hiring a Workday Data Engineer for an onsite role in New York, NY. The position offers an hourly rate of USD 65 to 135 and requires a minimum of seven years of experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT development, or enterprise data integration. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scalable ERP data pipelines across Workday and related enterprise systems, with emphasis on data quality, governance, and reliable production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, and sustain scalable ERP data pipelines supporting Workday and other enterprise applications.
  • Own the full lifecycle of ERP data pipelines from ingestion through transformation to delivery.
  • Support data conversion and migration projects, including mergers, acquisitions, and system integrations.
  • Ensure data pipelines are reliable, recoverable, and run smoothly in production.
  • Troubleshoot pipeline failures and determine root causes of data defects and operational issues.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into practical data solutions.
  • Apply and uphold SDLC practices, including version control, code reviews, CI/CD, and release management.
  • Develop and maintain data quality controls covering freshness, completeness, anomaly detection, and schema management.
  • Proactively detect and manage schema drift and downstream data issues.
  • Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability for data pipelines.
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and cost across data workloads.
  • Monitor operational KPIs such as pipeline success rates, SLAs, incident trends, and recovery times.
  • Create runbooks, documentation, and audit-ready operational processes.
  • Collaborate with data governance, security, and compliance teams to enforce controls and manage data access.
  • Support analytics, reporting, and integration teams by delivering reliable, well-governed datasets.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and escalate risks promptly.

Requirements

  • At least seven years of experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT development, or enterprise data integration.
  • Experience operating production data pipelines end to end, including monitoring, testing, and support.
  • Demonstrated expertise applying SDLC best practices such as version control, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • Strong SQL skills and programming experience in Python or similar languages.
  • Background working with ERP, finance, or enterprise application data within complex environments.
