An opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to strengthen Tentek's Advertising Data Platform on site across several West Coast locations. This 12+ month contract role is W2 only and requires in-person work in Glendale, Santa Monica, San Francisco, or Seattle, WA.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scalable data platform components for both streaming and batch workloads, governing the full software lifecycle from requirements and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Champion engineering practices focused on code quality, performance tuning, automated testing, CI/CD, and system reliability.
- Define and evaluate technical architectures, contribute to system-level design discussions, and steer critical engineering trade-offs.
- Collaborate with product managers, program managers, SDETs, and data scientists to deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
- Model leadership to foster an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture and provide mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues to maintain performance, availability, and reliability.
- Continuously assess emerging technologies and contribute to organizational innovation efforts.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional programming experience in Scala, Python, or similar languages.
- 3+ years of big data development with Spark, Flink, Airflow, Singlestore, Kafka, and AWS big data technologies.
- Deep understanding of data modeling, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
- Strong knowledge of system and application design and architecture.
- Experience building highly available, scalable services.

Job Description
The engineering group powers core capabilities across the addressable ad ecosystem, including operational data infrastructure, audience solutions, inventory forecasting, and full-funnel measurement. As a senior engineer, you will drive technical direction, set engineering standards, and mentor other developers. You will be expected to design scalable systems, write high-quality code, and address complex data and engineering challenges with autonomy and accountability, influencing the foundation and evolution of our ad platform. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in big data systems and a track record of building scalable backend or full-stack services, collaborating with engineers, data scientists, product managers, and stakeholders to enable the future of advertising.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Databricks for development and deployment of data pipelines.
- Experience with data governance, compliance, or observability tooling.
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure technologies including Terraform, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, IAM, and ALB.
- Experience with Snowflake, Kinesis, Lambda, and related services.
- Experience with Microservice frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, FastAPI, or NestJS.
