Job Description

The Hartford is hiring an Agile Product Owner (Data Product Owner) to help data modernization teams deliver cloud-based data products that support analytics, reporting, decision-making, digital experiences, and future AI-enabled capabilities. This hybrid or remote role focuses on translating data product vision into prioritized sprint goals and stories, partnering across business, technology, and data to drive measurable outcomes.

In this position, you will bring clarity and structure to complex data-related work, connect business objectives to data product investments, and work closely with Scrum Masters, Architects, Tech Leads, Data Engineers, Analysts, SMEs, and stakeholders to keep delivery aligned to OKRs, modernization objectives, and value stream goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day agile product execution for one or more agile teams supporting Data Modernization initiatives.
  • Translate data product vision and modernization objectives into sprint goals, prioritized stories, and measurable outcomes.
  • Maintain the data product backlog, ensuring clarity, readiness, and alignment to business value.
  • Break down features into user stories with clear acceptance criteria and a defined “definition of done.”
  • Partner with engineering and architecture teams to define and deliver cloud-based data products and capabilities.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities tied to data quality, accessibility, usability, and scalability.
  • Accept completed stories and validate delivered solutions meet expectations and create business value.
  • Act as the voice of the customer, business, and data consumer within the agile team(s).
  • Collaborate with Agile Product Managers, business leaders, and stakeholders to refine priorities and roadmap objectives.
  • Understand enterprise data processes, including how data is generated, consumed, and depended upon.
  • Ensure backlog items reflect business needs, customer outcomes, modernization goals, and technical feasibility.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define data product requirements, success measures, and adoption goals.
  • Gather feedback from demonstrations and stakeholders to inform future iterations.
  • Engage SMEs and business partners to clarify requirements and drive shared understanding.
  • Facilitate alignment on data definitions, ownership, business context, and expected outcomes.
  • Cascade updates and decisions to teams and stakeholders with clarity and purpose.
  • Partner with Data Steward to create and maintain product documentation, business definitions, and requirements to support transparency and adoption.
  • Support business readiness and change management activities for new data products and capabilities.
  • Monitor delivery metrics, product outcomes, and team health to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support adoption by helping stakeholders understand the value and impact of delivered data products.
  • Balance immediate business needs with long-term modernization goals.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a product owner, business analyst, digital, technology, or related role.
  • Analytical mindset with comfort using data to inform decisions and validate outcomes.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, XP) and tools such as JIRA, Rally, and Microsoft products.
  • Foundational understanding of data concepts including data flows, data products, analytics, reporting, and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Exposure to technologies such as Snowflake, business intelligence platforms, or cloud ecosystems is helpful, but deep technical expertise is not required.
  • Growth mindset, curiosity, and passion for solving business problems through data and technology.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities to deliver results.
  • Strong partnership and influencing skills across business, technology, and data teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.

Work Arrangement

  • Hybrid or remote work is available.
  • Candidates near an office location are expected to work in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday through Thursday).
  • Remote candidates are expected to come into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

  • Annualized base pay range: $100,000 - $150,000.
  • Additional rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.

Location: Hartford, CT (hybrid). Minimum experience: 2 years. Technologies: SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, XP, JIRA, Rally, Microsoft products, Snowflake, business intelligence platforms, cloud ecosystems.
