AI Engineer

Mortenson is seeking an AI Engineer to design, test, and deploy AI solutions that strengthen decision-making and streamline workflows across the enterprise and project teams. This hybrid role in Minnesota focuses on integrating AI models into enterprise systems and field-facing applications, alongside data model definition aligned to business needs and the organization’s data architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Test and evaluate AI solutions and functionalities within and beyond enterprise solutions
• Convert business requirements into business-ready AI solutions
• Partner with business stakeholders, presenting goals, objectives, and findings to non-technical audiences to support innovation aligned with the organization’s R&D efforts
• Work with structured and unstructured data sourced from construction platforms, including Procore and Autodesk
• Collaborate with Data Solutions to apply reusable components and pipelines that support scalable AI implementations for team members and domain experts across ITS and operations
• Support AI solutions that meet Mortenson standards for security, privacy, and responsible use
• Build effective working relationships across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 2+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or applied data science
• Experience working with LLMs, multimodal models, or generative AI (examples include Azure AI Foundry and Google Vertex)
• Familiarity with agent frameworks, agentic workflows, and knowledge graph (preferred)
• Strong proficiency in Python, ML frameworks, PowerBI, and data tools
• Exposure to enterprise construction platforms or solutions (examples include Procore, Autodesk, Oracle)
• Active listening and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback
• Ability to travel up to 15%
• Driver’s license required

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $85,300 - $128,000 per year. The actual range may be higher for certain office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL (5%), Seattle, WA and Portland, OR (10%), and Washington, D.C. (12.5%). If applicable, the position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
