AI Engineer

HQ Business Support-GROUP is hiring an AI Engineer in Minneapolis, MN (onsite) to design and deliver AI solutions that improve decision-making and automate workflows for enterprise and project teams. The role focuses on integrating AI models into both enterprise systems and field-facing applications, with a clear emphasis on matching business needs to the organization’s data architecture.

This position supports testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of AI capabilities while ensuring security, privacy, and responsible use standards are met across the platforms and datasets that power construction operations.

Salary & Location

• Location: Minneapolis, MN (onsite)
• Base pay range: USD 85,300 - 128,000 per year
• Office location adjustments: Higher actual range for Denver, CO and Chicago, IL by 5%, and Seattle, WA and Portland, OR by 10%
• Incentive plan: If applicable, eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan
• Pay positioning: Base pay is set within the range based on factors including knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration for internal equity

What You’ll Do

• Test and evaluate AI solutions and functionalities across and beyond enterprise solutions
• Translate business requirements into AI solutions that are ready for business use
• Collaborate with business partners, presenting goals, objectives, and findings to non-technical audiences to support innovation aligned with the organization’s R&D efforts
• Work with structured and unstructured data from construction platforms, including Procore and Autodesk
• Partner with Data Solutions to apply reusable components and pipelines that support scalable AI solutions for team members and domain experts across ITS and operations
• Ensure AI solutions meet standards for security, privacy, and responsible use
• Build effective working relationships across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• (If applicable) Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
• Experience: 2+ years in AI/ML engineering or applied data science
• Preferred background: Prior work in construction, architecture, engineering, or real estate development
• Experience with LLMs, multimodal models, or generative AI (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex)
• Familiarity with agent frameworks, agentic workflows, and knowledge graph (preferred)
• Strong proficiency in Python, ML frameworks, PowerBI, and data tools
• Exposure to enterprise construction platforms or solutions (e.g., Procore, Autodesk, Oracle)
• Active listening and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback
• Ability to travel up to 15%
• Driver’s license required
