NYU Langone Health is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to help drive generative AI and machine learning initiatives across the health system. The role collaborates with data scientists, clinical units, and IT partners to design, implement, and scale AI solutions that integrate with real-world workflows. This onsite position in New York, NY combines hands-on development with a focus on security, governance, and cross-functional collaboration, and offers a salary range of $84,577 to $126,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement AI and ML applications using the team’s technology stack, following software development best practices
- Partner with data scientists to build and fine-tune high-performing AI models, applying modern techniques from relevant published papers
- Develop scalable and robust pipelines to support large data processing tasks
- Implement internal security and data protection standards in AI applications; help maintain emerging AI system risk and security standards
- Assist with technical reviews and internal documentation covering architecture, IT security, and AI
- Collaborate with teammates and stakeholders to meet objectives; shadow clients to gather feature requirements, document AI opportunities, create tickets, participate in backlog refinement, execute tickets, and engage in code reviews
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in AI and cloud technologies; regularly share learnings with the team
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to less experienced team members
- Participate in all phases of the AI software development lifecycle, including functional analysis, prototyping, development, evaluation, testing, deployment, refactoring, and support
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- At least 1–3 years of hands-on experience in AI solution development
- Strong programming skills in Python or other commonly used AI development languages
- Solid knowledge of AI, machine learning, and deep learning concepts
- Experience with AI platforms such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Experience building large-scale or compute-intensive applications on clusters for data engineering, model training, and evaluation (HPC, Spark, Kubernetes)
- Understanding of software development principles, data structures, data modeling, and software architecture
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

Hiring process
