Job Description

USC Hospitality seeks a Business Data Analyst to run analyses, support reporting, and help improve business practices through accurate, benchmark-driven insights.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analyses and assist with interpretation using a variety of techniques to support business practices at USC Hospitality.
  • Work with management to identify and obtain analytical requirements.
  • Research best practices, develop benchmarks, and establish metrics for dashboards and reporting.
  • Create data collection methods (for example, surveys and tests) and develop tools and processes to support analyses.
  • Analyze results, review data for anomalies, investigate potential causes, and correct inaccuracies or inconsistencies as needed.
  • Provide recommendations and conclusions based on analyzed data.
  • Deliver business data trend information to support recommendations for action.
  • Collaborate with management on best practices, appropriate statistical measures, and benchmarking.
  • Apply statistical and quality management principles to report findings and initiate operational or business practice changes.
  • Develop schedules for producing statistical analyses and graphical representations of data for business analytics.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting and statistical analyses as requested.
  • Oversee or perform data collection and/or data entry processes; recommend and/or use methods and procedures for data acquisition, management, and quality control.
  • Recommend and/or use statistical techniques for data analysis as directed or as needed.
  • Troubleshoot issues, answer questions, and provide information to facilitate process improvements.
  • Use standard statistical analysis software as directed.
  • Oversee or perform maintenance and development of databases used for collecting and reporting data.
  • Design data input and/or data collection screens as needed.
  • Enter and/or validate data entry as needed, and ensure data errors are addressed.
  • Provide technical support and design enhancements.
  • Determine appropriate formats for presenting data and results in both web-based and published metrics dashboards.
  • Produce or oversee production of graphs, tables, and charts.
  • Assemble or oversee the production and distribution of reports that summarize data for management review.
  • Create status reports covering project plans, progress, and results.
  • Provide input into decisions affecting business operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff and/or student workers related to business data analysis duties as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of data analysis techniques, standards, and related technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree; combined experience and education may substitute for the minimum education.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year.
  • Expertise: Proficient PC skills.
  • Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and statistical software programs.
  • Knowledge of business statistics and data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to manage and analyze data.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred experience: 3 years.
  • Preferred field of expertise: Bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as statistics, economics, mathematics, accounting, business, computer science, information science, or management information science.
  • Knowledge of quality management methods (for example, Six Sigma).

  • Salary: USD 70,000 - 72,000 per year
