Job Description

Rutgers University, in the Department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, seeks a Data Analyst to support investigators with data management and statistical analysis across studies focused on alcohol use, drug use, and health outcomes. The role also includes contributing to manuscript methods and results as a co-author.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare datasets and provide supporting documentation for statistical analysis.
  • Design tests and processes to assess data validity and analysis results, applying appropriate data management and methodological techniques based on the data structure and research questions.
  • Conduct modeling and statistical analyses in collaboration with the project principal investigator and the team’s PhD-level biostatistician, including descriptive and multivariable statistical analyses.
  • Perform analyses using clinical, medical record, and observational data from multiple grant-funded studies related to alcohol/drug use and health outcomes.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to evaluate and interpret research findings, and prepare data summaries in tables, figures, and charts.
  • Write code using tools such as R, SAS, or similar programs for data preparation, management, analytic file creation, statistical analysis, and generation of graphs and tables for manuscript reporting.
  • Attend regular meetings with project investigators to discuss progress and contribute to presentations of study findings, including drafting methods and results sections for peer-reviewed manuscripts as a co-author.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills, motivation, autonomy, multi-tasking ability, and reliable recordkeeping.
  • Ability to program, manage data, and conduct statistical analyses.
  • Demonstrated data management skills, including experience preparing data for analysis.
  • Solid foundation in statistical theory and application, along with willingness to learn and apply new methods and approaches.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including writing, editing, producing reports, and technical writing for documenting database structure and content.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the design and analysis of data in academia, government, or industrial settings.
  • Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.

Salary

  • Minimum: USD 74,332 per year
  • Mid range: USD 89,311 per year
  • Maximum: USD 106,121 per year

The final salary offer may be determined by candidate qualifications, experience, expertise, and availability of department or grant funds. Rutgers also considers market benchmarks (when appropriate) and internal equity to support fair compensation within the university’s broader compensation structure.

Work Arrangement

This role may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, may change or be discontinued, and are contingent on approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with database systems such as REDCap or Qualtrics.
  • Experience working with survey data, medical record data, clinical trials outcome data, and/or administrative claims data.
  • Skills and knowledge in machine-learning and natural language processing preferred but not required.
  • Proven ability to work with the processes and technologies of large datasets.
