Stanford University is seeking a Research Data Analyst 2 to support oncology-focused research within the Stanford Pathology EMERALD program. This hybrid role centers on managing and analyzing sequencing datasets, building bioinformatic tooling, and contributing to distributed pipeline architectures with a focus on clinical-grade quality, scalability, and maintainability in an in-house cluster or cloud environment.
Program and Team Context
The Research Data Analyst 2 will work within the Stanford Pathology EMERALD (Enhancing Medical Excellence via Research in Advanced Laboratory Diagnostics) Program. EMERALD supports diagnostics research and novel test development with the aim of enabling rapid deployment in clinical laboratories.
Position Summary
The role supports a comprehensive cancer genomics program, including the development and application of bioinformatic tools to analyze oncology-related sequencing data. This work includes, but is not limited to, whole exome, whole genome, and whole transcriptome data from solid tumor and hematopoietic cell malignancies.
In addition, the position supports the implementation of distributed pipeline architectures for medical NGS data analysis, emphasizing clinical-grade quality, scalability, and maintainability in an in-house cluster or cloud setting.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize and extract data from multiple sources including notes, survey results, medical reports, and laboratory data, while maintaining accuracy and completeness.
- Identify additional data collection and reporting requirements.
- Design and customize reports based on database content and oversee regulatory compliance for data utilization.
- Use system reports and analyses to detect potentially problematic data, apply corrections, and address root causes or provide justification for solutions implemented by others.
- Create complex charts and databases, conduct statistical analyses, and prepare graphs and tables for publication and presentation.
- Act as a resource for non-routine requests such as statistical or survey data inquiries.
- Test prototype software and participate in the approval and release process for new software.
- Provide documentation aligned with audit and reporting criteria for investigators and research staff.
- Analyze sequencing data generated as part of the comprehensive cancer genomics program.
Requirements
- Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload.
Technologies
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience: Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting in place at a computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding and dexterity.
- Occasionally use a telephone.
- Rarely writing by hand.
