Data Analyst Co-Op (Procurement & Logistics) - Undergraduate Students
Job Description
The Procurement & Logistics Data Analyst Co-Op provides undergraduate students with hands-on experience analyzing complex operational datasets and supporting analytics for MBTA procurement and logistics.
Responsibilities
- Conduct data analysis to support staff and leadership decision-making across strategic and operational needs
- Build, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, and visualizations, primarily in Tableau
- Collect, clean, validate, and reconcile procurement and logistics data across multiple systems to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Maintain and improve data pipelines and analytical tools, compiling historical and current data to detect changes, trends, and anomalies
- Analyze data related to contracts, purchase orders, vendors, and procurement processes
- Pull invoice, voucher, and payment data from enterprise systems when automated solutions are not available
- Support system validation and data quality by comparing data between enterprise systems and documenting findings with recommended updates
- Assist with documentation, process mapping, and modernization initiatives within Procurement & Logistics
- Collaborate with Sourcing, Non-Inventory, Inventory, and Compliance teams on assigned projects
- Attend team or staff meetings, organization events, fieldwork, project teams, or other duties as needed
- Support internal and external customers with courteous, professional service
- Complete additional duties and projects as assigned, including department or location-specific work per addendums or hiring manager direction
Requirements
- Enrolled for the entire employment duration in the undergraduate / bachelor’s program at Northeastern University; preferred areas include data analytics, information systems, business analytics, supply chain, or related fields
- Above average proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel for analysis and reporting
- Above average analytical and problem-solving skills with interest in data analysis and project-based work
- Above average proficiency in at least one programming language and experience with tools such as Git, SQL/No-SQL, CLI/bash scripting, and R or Python (Pandas)
- Above average skills in business intelligence and data visualization tools, such as Tableau and/or Power BI
- Ability to explain analytical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong written and oral communication in English
- Highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented
- Strong interest in public service and how transit or transportation operates
- Ability to work effectively in diverse, collaborative, fast-paced environments and independently
- Ability to independently commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area as required
- Authorized to work in the United States (international students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs through a university are eligible); MBTA does not provide visa sponsorship (e.g., H1-B)

- Ability to work all assigned shifts and/or locations, including up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week for some transit / operations roles to accommodate severe weather, emergencies, or service impacts
- Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire internship / co-op; also must have valid work authorization and a U.S. Social Security Number prior to pre-employment screenings / pre-boarding, during employment, and throughout the program
