Data Analyst / Data Scientist (Utility Analytics)
Job Description
Skill is seeking a Data Analyst / Data Scientist for a utility analytics special project within its Customer Analytics and Digital Products team. This contract role supports analysis of large utility datasets, powers reporting for customer and billing outcomes, and helps improve customer-facing digital products using historical usage and engagement data.
In this role, you will work across data analysis and visualization, building Power BI dashboards and translating technical findings into clear recommendations for both technical and business stakeholders. The position is remote with EST preferred or based in NYC (hybrid), with a target start date of ASAP.
Responsibilities
- Analyze large utility datasets, including Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) usage, Customer Care & Billing (CC&B), and customer engagement data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and data quality issues.
- Design and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and visual summaries to monitor product performance, billing outcomes, and key customer metrics.
- Support customer-facing digital products (for example, rate recommendation tools and bill comparison features) using historical usage and billing data.
- Track and analyze website and digital engagement metrics such as page views, clicks, and user interactions.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, software engineers, and business SMEs to support data integrations, user testing, and product enhancements.
- Translate complex technical findings into actionable insights and present recommendations clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
Requirements
- Direct experience working with AMI and utility customer usage data. Candidates without utility/AMI experience will not be considered.
- 2+ years of professional data analysis experience, including a track record of reviewing large data extracts/dumps to identify trends and data anomalies.
- Hands-on Power BI experience for dashboard creation and data visualization.
- Experience with Databricks or working with large, multi-source datasets.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong data validation and problem-solving skills, extreme attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication suitable for a regulated environment.

Role Details

- Pay rate: $55.00–$60.00/hour (up to $75.00/hour for candidates with extensive, highly relevant utility experience)

- Experience with CC&B data and tools.
- Proficiency with Google Analytics or other web/digital engagement tracking platforms.
- Proven experience developing recurring customer analytics reports and tracking digital product adoption.
