Data Analyst - Retail Accounting

At Target, this Data Analyst role focuses on turning retail and inventory activity into reliable financial signals and analysis that teams can act on. You will work cross-functionally to identify risk, improve inventory reliability, explain business performance, and support modernization efforts across Finance, Supply Chain, Stores, and Technology.

What you’ll do

• Translate retail and inventory activity into decision-ready analysis for trusted financial and operational insights.
• Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Supply Chain, Stores, and Technology to identify risk and improve inventory reliability.
• Explain business performance using analysis grounded in descriptive statistics, basic inferential statistics, and data visualizations.
• Develop clear, understandable narratives that support conclusions using data creation and consolidation, including data mining.
• Ask questions about business objectives and measurement needs for workstream deliverables, including defining and measuring objectives and key results.

Requirements

• Education: Four-year degree.
• Experience: 1+ year as a Data Analyst, with strong academic performance in a quantitative field, or strong equivalent experience.
• Intermediate experience with SQL, including writing complex queries.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with data curiosity for data creation, consolidation, and mining.
• Ability to support conclusions with a clear story using descriptive statistics, basic inferential statistics, and data visualizations.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain insights to both business and technical teams and translate between them.
• Experience with analytics tools including SQL, Excel, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Python, R, Domo, Adobe Analytics (or Google Analytics) and/or equivalent technologies.

Location and work arrangement

Location: Brooklyn Park, MN (hybrid).

• This position will operate as a hybrid/flex day work arrangement based on Target’s needs.
• The core role requires work both onsite at the Target HQ in MN and virtually, depending on the day’s role, team, and tasks.
• Work duties cannot be performed outside the country of the primary work location unless otherwise prescribed by Target.

Compensation

Salary Range: USD 69,800 - 125,700 per year.
