Data Engineer

Meridian Systematics is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and sustain data-driven infrastructure that powers analytics across the organization. This on-site role in Springfield, VA collaborates with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data is accessible, trustworthy, and ready for analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, test, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data management systems.
• Create and manage ETL and ELT workflows to move and transform data across diverse platforms.
• Develop and maintain a unified data catalog, data warehouse, or data lake architectures, including table schemas for organized storage.
• Implement data quality controls and governance policies to ensure data reliability and security.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business leaders to translate needs into data-driven solutions aligned with company goals.
• Write scripts and leverage orchestration tools to automate repetitive data workflows.
• Monitor data systems for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, and optimize accordingly.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one of Python, Java, or Scala.
• Strong experience with both relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Hands-on experience with big data tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.
• Familiarity with cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with ETL frameworks and tools such as Talend, Informatica, or AWS Glue.
