Data Engineer
Job Description
The Data Engineer role at Thomson Reuters supports the delivery of internal and external data-enabled solutions for the Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) organization. The position involves building and improving data pipelines and workflows, supporting customer-facing implementations, and enabling the extraction, cleaning, integration, analysis, and delivery of structured and unstructured data.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal teams and customer technology staff to implement and support custom TRSS client solutions and POCs
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and workflows that improve the usefulness and efficiency of internal and external datasets applied to customer needs
- Support internal process improvement, including automation of robotic processes across the organization when possible
- Provide solution architecture support for business opportunities
- Contribute technical input to leadership teams based on customer technology requirements and infrastructure knowledge
- Assess and interpret unique client requirements, then develop custom integration approaches for TRSS content within client applications
- Support effective implementation of internal and external data-enabled solutions for the TRSS organization
- Perform a customer-facing component that includes direct implementation and support of existing or new applications at customer locations
Required Qualifications
- Several years of data engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience leading the implementation and customization of technical solutions, preferably for government clients
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with interest in Python and SQL (other languages may be useful)
- Experience with RESTful web services and current data communications technologies
- Experience connecting to and querying relational and document-oriented databases
- Comfort working in both GUI and command line environments on Linux and Windows OS
- Basic understanding of common data structures such as flat files, XML, JSON, and graph structures
- Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure, including AWS
- Strong personal work ethic and superior moral and ethical character
- Ability to work under pressure with dynamic and changing requirements
- US National Secret security clearance required to start; TS preferred
- High level understanding of network troubleshooting techniques and communications protocols
- Experience with information retrieval and storage technologies such as AWS Glue and Snowflake

Location and Work Model
Location: McLean, VA (hybrid). The role offers a flexible hybrid work model of 2-3 days per week in the office depending on the role. Eligible office locations include McLean, VA; Washington, DC; and New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA.
Compensation and Bonus
Base salary range: USD 94,000 - 175,000 per year.
The position may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
