Data Engineer I
Job Description
Redstone Federal Credit Union is hiring a Data Engineer I to help build, manage, and improve the data foundation that powers data products across the organization. This role supports a strong focus on responsible data practices, reliable pipeline operations, and collaboration with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers. You will work in a remote environment with a team mindset centered on the Credit Union RISE Values and Code of Ethics.
What you’ll do
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve the enterprise data warehouse.
- Monitor performance, implement patches and upgrades, minimize database downtime, and manage parameters to support fast query responses.
- Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and software engineers to create, maintain, and improve data models.
- Assist with establishing, maintaining, and improving metadata management tools and processes.
- Build, maintain, and improve ETL/ELT infrastructure for data movement from a wide variety of sources.
- Create and maintain data pipeline architecture.
- Assemble large, complex datasets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
- Assist in setting data quality standards and implement processes and tools to assess and improve accuracy, completeness, reliability, relevance, and timeliness.
- Assist with the development and implementation of disaster recovery plans and processes to protect data integrity and availability.
- Complete required training programs to maintain current knowledge applicable to assigned duties, including regulatory compliance requirements.
What you bring
- 2+ years of experience.
- Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Technology, or another quantitative field (as listed).
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., SSIS).
- Experience with data profiling, with and without data definition documentation.
- Experience with data modeling, especially dimensional modeling.
- Ability to learn and apply information across a range of Credit Union products, services, and regulatory compliance requirements to assess member situations and develop solutions.
- Professional communication skills, including clear information delivery and active listening; use tact and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential contexts.
- Demonstrated commitment to lead and model RISE values and Code of Ethics through daily interactions and conduct.
- Guidance in resolving complex problems using advanced knowledge and experience within assigned areas.
- Correct use of English (spelling, grammar, punctuation) and understanding/following written and oral instructions.
- Strong analytical aptitude and a driving curiosity to identify, formulate, and solve problems.
- Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.

Work environment and physical demands
Works in a typical technology office environment, with a remote work environment considered. Physical demands include intermittent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and climbing; repetitive use of hands to operate computers and office equipment; reaching with hands and arms; and intermittent lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
