Data Engineer II, Analytics Engineering

The Travelers Companies, Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer II to join its Analytics Engineering team in Hartford. This role focuses on building and operationalizing complex data solutions that power AI, machine learning, and enterprise business intelligence, while turning insights discovered in data into practical data products across the organization.

Compensation

Salary: USD 126,500 - 208,700 per year

Summary of role

The Data Engineer II collaborates across teams to deliver reliable data products and analytic environments, translating data stories into actionable solutions and ensuring governance, security, and quality are embedded throughout data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Build and operationalize complex data solutions, address issues, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing and quality approaches.
• Design sophisticated data architectures and pipelines to support analytic processes.
• Analyze diverse data sources to determine value and usage, and identify data to include in analytics workflows.
• Incorporate core data management practices including data governance, data security, and data quality.
• Collaborate within and across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytic environment.
• Perform data and systems analysis, assess and resolve complex defects and incidents, and implement appropriate corrections.
• Test data movement, transformation code, and data components.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Eight years of related experience.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Proven ETL and data pipeline experience.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, particularly for ETL development.
• Four additional years of data engineering experience.
