Data Scientist

Booz Allen Hamilton is hiring a Data Scientist in San Diego, CA to help translate both structured and unstructured data into actionable insights. This role applies machine learning, artificial intelligence, and IoT-related approaches to address global challenges, with a focus on working directly with clients and communicating results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The work centers on building algorithms and data-driven systems that turn disparate data points into objective answers, supporting informed decisions and creating real-world impact. You will also develop a strong understanding of the data itself, including what it means and how it can be used.

What you’ll do

• Partner closely with clients to understand their questions and needs, then examine the data-rich environments where solutions can be built.
• Develop algorithms and systems, selecting the right tools and frameworks to transform disparate data into objective answers that support decision-making.
• Build a deep understanding of the data, including meaning and use cases.
• Create real-world impact by applying analytical skills and data science knowledge.

Requirements

• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or R.
• Experience with data exploration, cleaning, analysis, visualization, or data mining.
• Experience analyzing both structured and unstructured data sources.
• Knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, or natural language processing.
• Ability to communicate complex data science and AI concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to develop practical learning materials such as hands-on labs, exercises, or guided walkthroughs aligned with modern data science and AI workflows.
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree.

Nice if you have

• 2+ years of experience with structured curricula, facilitated discussions, guided exercises, or delivering technical material in professional learning environments
• 2+ years of experience with Machine Learning, AI, or NLP
• 2+ years of experience developing algorithms leveraging R, Python, or SQL/NoSQL
• Experience designing or delivering training content that incorporates emerging AI capabilities, model limitations, and best-practice considerations
• Experience integrating APIs in AI-enabled workflows or applications, including API support for automated or LLM-driven processes
• Experience with cloud and distributed computing systems such as AWS and Databricks
• Knowledge of prompt engineering techniques, including structured prompts and managing large language model context windows for improved output quality when working with generative AI
• Knowledge of model context protocol (MCP) concepts and how standardized context frameworks enable interoperable, plug-and-play AI workflows across tools and environments
• Knowledge of data processing frameworks such as Pandas or Spark
• Master’s degree
