Data Scientist

At Chevron, the Data Scientist role partners closely with business teams to turn high-impact opportunities into data science, AI, and machine learning solutions. The position focuses on framing the right problems, developing and validating models, and setting up model lifecycle management so solutions can be adopted and deliver measurable value.

What you’ll do

• Identify and frame opportunities for data science, machine learning, AI, GenAI-enabled workflows, and related technologies to improve decision-making, workflow efficiency, automation, and business outcomes.
• Define expected business value, success metrics, and adoption considerations for proposed initiatives.
• Determine the data and technology needed to address business challenges.
• Clean data and develop and test models.
• Establish a model life cycle management process.
• Engage business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams to communicate progress, quantify impact, support adoption, and identify additional opportunities.
• Provide technical mentoring in modeling and analytics technologies, including modeling process specifics and consulting skills.
• Translate business opportunities into data, AI, and machine learning solutions designed to deliver measurable business value.

Skills and qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience applying advanced analytics techniques.
• Demonstrated depth in applied data science and ML data science technologies, including machine learning, operations research, statistics, and data mining.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and tools in its ecosystem.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Strong ability to frame business problems and translate business needs into data science, AI, and machine learning opportunities that deliver measurable value.
• Awareness of data quality, data governance, metadata, lineage, and responsible use of enterprise data in analytics and AI solutions.
• Familiarity with model lifecycle management and MLOps practices, including model documentation, monitoring, performance management, retraining, and responsible deployment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to collaborate across functional and geographic areas and explain technical concepts to business audiences.
• Responsible AI mindset, including privacy, security, transparency, fairness, human oversight, and appropriate governance for AI-enabled solutions.

Education

• Minimum B.S. or M.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
