Finance Data Analyst
Job Description
UW Credit Union is looking for a Finance Data Analyst to help turn finance and business data into insights that support growth, innovation, and member-focused outcomes. This onsite role in Madison, WI combines advanced analytics and visualization with collaboration across business partners and finance operations.
At UW Credit Union, you will contribute to data-driven solutions through solution development, project coordination and business analysis, documentation, and ongoing improvement of reporting tools that support strategic priorities.
Location, Salary, and Experience
- Location: Madison, WI (onsite)
- Work schedule: Office work 3 days per week
- Salary: USD 86,400 per year
- Minimum experience: 2 years
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Responsibilities
- Use advanced data analysis and visualization tools, and integrate insights into business processes, including participation in building new frameworks and data-driven solutions
- Work with complex datasets to identify trends and patterns and make data-driven recommendations
- Use SQL with JOIN and aggregates; build basic data pipelines using dbt
- Create complex visualizations in Tableau
- Validate results using reasonability checks, comparisons to historical results and benchmarks, and end user validation processes established by the team
- Document data structures, measures, metadata, assumptions, models, reports, analyses, and client-focused training materials as required
- Provide peer review of colleagues’ coding, results, analyses, and other deliverables
- Maintain and update existing reports and tools as strategic priorities, external environments, underlying software, data structures, or end-use workflows change
- Collaborate with business partners to define problems and suggest initial data-driven solutions
- Apply business domain understanding to translate business needs into impactful data approaches
- Work with business units to understand data needs, refine Use Case criteria, identify data sources, and profile data for fit
- Consult with analytics clients through oral and written presentations for meetings or leadership audiences
- Develop and maintain knowledge of organizational structure, core leaders, decision makers, and relationships that affect client engagement efficiency and success
- Forecast workload volume, establish priority guidelines, and negotiate timelines with partners to support demand
- Contribute experience and insight through collaboration and lead knowledge-sharing sessions with junior analysts
- Build relationships with domain peers to understand the business mechanics behind the data
- Stay current on advancements in analytic technologies
- Provide technical assistance to staff for business intelligence tools
- Participate in new vendor evaluations and help ensure active usage of vendor-provided resources, including technical support, education, compliance, reporting, and user groups
- Maintain professional rapport with vendor contacts to support progress on problem resolution and product enhancements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, business, or related field required, or equivalent work experience
- 2-3 years of data analysis or analytics experience in two or more of the following:
- Code development using SQL
- Performance measure development
- Organization, analysis, and modeling of multiple data sources
- Development of data visualizations, dashboards, KPIs, etc.
- Tableau development
- 2-3 years of hands-on database querying experience
- Financial services industry experience preferred
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced presentation skills, including storytelling to drive action
- Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate as part of a team
- Ability to initiate and follow through on complex projects across short- and long-term durations
- Advanced organization and time management skills
- Advanced analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, taking responsibility for job development and training, researching and resolving questions, requesting leadership input, and keeping leadership informed
- Advanced skills creating, designing, and developing interactive dashboards and visualizations
- Ability to interpret business needs and translate them into actionable analytic deliverables
