Job Description
The Machine Learning Engineer will help build computer vision capabilities and image/video analytics for defense and commercial use within AV’s Learning and Active Perception (LEAP) group.
Responsibilities
- Develop computer vision and ML algorithms for object detection, classification, localization, and tracking from stationary and mobile sensor platforms, targeting real-time automated target recognition (ATR)
- Apply visual imagery data science to support data collection, data labeling, and data selection for training deep computer vision models
- Train algorithms with selected data and validate data selection and algorithm design using purpose-designed experiments
- Analyze ML approaches to solve defined problems and rank algorithms by success probability on new data
- Define objectives, develop models to meet them, and establish metrics to track progress
- Select appropriate datasets and data representations
- Evaluate errors across data, model, and design strategies and iterate to overcome them
- Write and test software to support integration of ML algorithms into aircraft systems (including autopilots, payloads, or other functional components) or other systems
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related Science or Engineering discipline
- 2+ years of relevant experience in machine learning and/or computer vision
- 2 to 5 years of relevant computer vision experience
- Familiarity with Python and C/C++ required
- Proficiency with a deep learning framework, preferably PyTorch
- Proficiency with ML libraries including Open-CV, scikit-learn, and pandas
- Familiarity with Linux
- Familiarity with Nvidia Tools (CUDA, JetPack, TensorRT) and the deployment process to Nvidia GPUs
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex systems and perform algorithmic optimization
- Ability to perform exploratory data analysis, including visualizing and manipulating large datasets
- U.S. Citizenship required (to qualify for this role)
- Active Secret (or higher) DoD security clearance
- Willingness and ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS (Occasionally, up to 25%)

Clearance and ITAR
- Clearance level: No Clearance
- ITAR/EAR requirement: position requires access to information subject to ITAR and/or EAR
- Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR or be eligible for an export license approval
- Offers requiring export license approval may be conditional on the company’s ability to obtain the license within required timelines
- U.S. person per ITAR includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and protected individuals (22 CFR § 120.15)
- U.S. Citizenship required; Secret or Top Secret clearance (or ability to obtain) desired
Location: Centreville, VA (Onsite)
Salary: USD 102,000 - 155,500 per year
Minimum experience: 2 years
Travel: Occasional, up to 25%
