Mid-Level AI Engineer
Job Description
Nou Systems Inc is assembling an onsite team in Lexington, MA to build and deliver applied AI and machine learning systems for defense and related markets. In this role, you will help take models and methods from research into real-world use, covering areas such as deep reinforcement learning, explainability, adversarial ML, and model interpretability.
This mid-level to mid-senior position focuses on developing AI solutions, training and analyzing AI/ML systems, and supporting multiple teams while communicating results clearly to both technical and non-specialist audiences.
Role Focus
- Develop, train, and analyze AI/ML systems, including deep reinforcement learning, explainability, adversarial ML, and model interpretability.
- Architect and deliver AI solutions from lab to field for defense and related markets.
Responsibilities
- Architect AI solutions and navigate complex engineering tradeoffs.
- Identify and design training data sets.
- Implement and customize AI models from open literature.
- Develop MLOps pipelines.
- Visualize and communicate results through written documents and oral presentations.
- Brief technical concepts and results to non-specialist audiences.
- Bring in new work through proposals and conferences for the Technical Solutions division.
- Help develop junior engineers and contribute value beyond individual output.
- Support multiple teams and collaborate effectively with teammates.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in computer science, math, physics, or a related field (or bachelor’s degree plus 2 additional years of experience).
- Strong intellectual curiosity.
- Ability to identify, understand, and apply relevant research literature.
- Must possess or be able to obtain an active Secret clearance.

Salary range is USD 125,000 - 200,000 per year. Minimum experience: 2 years. Location: Lexington, MA (onsite).
