Principal Data Analyst - Strategy and Analytics

The Principal Data Analyst role in Strategy and Analytics is an analytics engineering position focused on building reliable data foundations and enabling self-service insights for internal data consumers. You will work end to end across data transformation, modeling, governance, and observability.

Role Overview

Support the Strategy and Analytics team by delivering trusted metrics, strengthening data discovery through semantic layers, and improving observability across the data lifecycle. The work includes modernization and migration efforts from legacy reporting platforms and the development of data cubes, warehouses, and other analytical data models.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the transformation layer and apply best practices to design and implement data cubes, warehouses, and data models that serve user needs.
• Define, manage, and implement the analytics engineering and infrastructure roadmap.
• Improve data models, infrastructure, and dashboard interfaces to support effective self-service analytics.
• Collaborate with team members and data customers to understand analytical requirements and meet them through platform capabilities.
• Drive quality metadata and data discovery using a semantic layer for both AI and human users.
• Review, refine, and iterate on AI-generated code and analyses to improve outputs.
• Serve as a performing data steward by defining and enforcing data governance standards and managing metadata frameworks for compliance and discoverability.
• Increase data quality and observability across all stages of the data lifecycle.
• Support modernization and migration initiatives from legacy reporting platforms.
• Perform unit tests and conduct peer reviews to ensure code is rigorously designed, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Drive a single source of truth for trusted metrics that users can find, understand, and use for decisions.
• Use analytical skills to support current and future strategy.
• Assist with building and using models to test and validate data.
• Work with very large datasets in new and evolving environments, including systems with millions to billions of records.
• Leverage analytics to enhance customer experience.
• Participate across the full lifecycle of projects and see outcomes through.
• Collaborate across business units and deliver process, data, and reporting improvements.
• Conduct analysis to evaluate processes and tests, and improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Consult on design and implementation of new production and data storage systems.
• Enhance self-service offerings through improved data cubes, dashboards, and AI interfaces.
• Drive high data and code quality, consistency, and simplicity.
• Work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where analytics and data quality are priorities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related) plus at least 5 years of data analytics experience; or a Master’s Degree plus at least 3 years of data analytics experience, with the expectation the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date.
• At least 3 years of experience working with at least one scripting language.
• At least 3 years of experience using a business intelligence visualization tool.
• At least 3 years of experience querying, analyzing, and working with data languages and platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics discipline.
• At least 4 years of experience coding in Python, R, Spark, or SQL.
• At least 4 years of experience applying process management and improvement methodologies (Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
• At least 2 years of experience using and developing with AWS services.
• At least 2 years of experience delivering Data Governance and Data Quality Management concepts and practices within the financial services industry.
